Petrel Design Guidelines
This is a prototype.
The single source of truth for consistent, accessible, Petrel-native UI across WPF and WinForms. Aligns UX and development around shared standards, WCAG 2.2 AA, and the Microsoft Accessibility Checklist 2026.
What this guideline covers
These guidelines address four main areas:
- Accessibility — WCAG 2.2 AA requirements adapted for WPF desktop software, including keyboard navigation, colour contrast, screen reader support, and DPI scaling.
- Foundations — Core visual design tokens: colour palette, typography, spacing, numeric precision, responsive behaviour, materials, and icons.
- UI libraries — Component-level guidance for dialogs, buttons, form controls, tables, the Ribbon, navigation, cards, and notifications.
- Governance — How to contribute, how guidance is reviewed, and how status labels communicate confidence levels.
