# AI Assistant and MCP integration

SLB Developer now understands your questions, and can plug straight into the AI coding assistant
you already use. Two new capabilities are live across the whole site:

- **AI Assistant** — click **Search with AI** in the search dialog (or the floating **Ask AI** button)
to get a direct, sourced answer to any question about our APIs, SDKs, and guides, instead of
hunting through pages yourself.
- **SLB Developer MCP server** — a hosted [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io)
endpoint that any MCP-capable AI coding assistant (Cursor, VS Code, Claude, Codex, ChatGPT, and more)
can connect to, so it can search our docs and pull live, accurate API references and schemas straight
into its context while you code. See the [Connect to the MCP server](https://developer.slb.com/mcp) page for one-click and
copy-paste setup for Cursor, VS Code, Claude, ChatGPT/Codex, and more.

## AI Assistant

The AI Assistant (previously called AI search) answers your questions in plain language. Regular
keyword search still works exactly as before — this is an additional mode you opt into per search.
To get an AI-generated answer instead of a list of matching pages:

1. Open the search dialog from any page (click the search field in the top navigation bar, or
press `Ctrl+K` / `Cmd+K`).
2. Click **Search with AI** inside the dialog — *or* click the floating **Ask AI** button in the
bottom-right corner of any page. Either entry point opens the **AI Assistant**.
3. Type your question in plain language and press Enter, for example:

- "How do I authenticate as an app instead of on behalf of a user?"
- "Which API do I call to search OSDU records?"
- "What's the deprecation policy for SLB Developer APIs?"

Once you open the AI Assistant, it reads across SLB Developer's guides and API references and
returns a synthesized answer with links back to the exact pages it used, so you can verify the
details and keep reading from there. Use **Back to Search** inside the dialog to return to regular
keyword search at any time.

The AI Assistant is a starting point for exploration, not a replacement for the underlying docs —
always confirm details against the linked source page before shipping code.

## The SLB Developer MCP server

The SLB Developer MCP server is a hosted endpoint at `https://developer.slb.com/mcp`. Model Context
Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI assistants call external tools for context — this
server exposes SLB Developer's guides and API references as tools your assistant can call directly.

Once connected, your assistant can:

- discover and list the APIs available on SLB Developer
- search across guides and API references
- fetch endpoint details — parameters, request/response schemas, and examples
- look up security schemes and full OpenAPI descriptions

The result is accurate, up-to-date answers grounded in our actual APIs — no copy-pasting endpoint
definitions into a chat window, and no stale guesses from a model that's never seen our latest changes.
The server requires sign-in, so you connect once and your assistant works with the same content you
see on the site.

### Connect your assistant

To connect the SLB Developer MCP server to your AI coding assistant, use the
**[Connect to the MCP server](https://developer.slb.com/mcp)** page. It has tabbed, copy-paste setup instructions for
Cursor, VS Code, Claude, ChatGPT/Codex, and raw JSON configuration, all pointed at the SLB
Developer MCP server (`https://developer.slb.com/mcp`).

Sign-in required
The SLB Developer MCP server requires authentication. You'll complete a one-time sign-in the first time you connect, using the same account you use on the site.

Once connected, confirm it works by asking your assistant (in agent or chat mode) something
like *"Using the SLB Developer MCP server, show me the request/response schema for the DrillPlan
AEA API."*
